Ford Trucks and SUVs Suffer Oil Leak Over Misaligned Engine Cup Plug
A defect with an engine cup plug has led to Ford issuing a recall for certain vehicles due to risks of oil leaks, according to Ford Authority.
Vehicles covered in the recall include certain 2024-2025 F-150 models produced between Sept. 12–Oct. 8, 2024; 2024 Expedition SUVs built from Sept. 24–Oct. 6, 2024; and 2024 Navigator vehicles produced from Sept. 24–27, 2024.
All recalled vehicles are equipped with the twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine.
The problem lies with an engine cup plug that may be misaligned, causing a rapid oil leak and an engine stall. An oil leak coming in contact with an ignition source, such as a hot engine or exhaust components, creates a fire risk.
Owners of these vehicles won’t receive notice until Dec. 2. Dealers will be instructed to inspect the alignment of the engine cup plug, and to replace it if deemed necessary.
