While it isn’t uncommon for lube techs to discover animals hiding within a customer’s vehicle during the winter months, a recent incident at a Mavis Tires and Brakes in Dedham, Massachusetts has proved it’s something that can happen year-round.
According to a report from Boston.com, technicians at the shop found a nine-week-old kitten hiding within the engine compartment of a vehicle.
An animal control official arrived on the scene, and the kitten was removed and had motor oil cleaned from its fur.
It’s unknown how the kitten got into the vehicle. The Animal Rescue League of Boston in Dedham, who took the kitten in following the discovery, said it likely got scared and felt safe in the vehicle, though the organization noted it’s something that happens more commonly in colder seasons.
The kitten, now named Mavis, is being cared for at a foster home, and will be available for adoption within a week.
“Although timid, Mavis is a sweet and friendly kitten, who is sure to be a wonderful companion animal and will now be an indoor-only cat to avoid future car adventures,” said the Animal Rescue League in a statement. “ARL would like to thank Dedham Animal Control and Mavis Tire and Brakes for finding and rescuing this animal who will soon begin the next chapter of his life.”
