Oct. 14, 2020—The Automotive Oil Change Association, along with the Tire Industry Association and the Auto Care Association, has issued a complaint against General Motors concerning a Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act violation.
According to the letter retrieved from the AOCA, an internal General Motors Customer Acknowledgement Form for Disclosure of Non-GM Products was ruled by the associations as an attempt to actively discourage consumers from using non-OEM parts.
The trade groups say that General Motors discouraged the use of non-OEM parts using incorrect information regarding the quality of the non-OEM replacement parts. With this, the associations say this is a violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (MMWA), which prohibits the conditioning of warranties based on the use of a non-original equipment part.
