Aug. 25, 2021—Reservations for Ford's new Maverick pickup truck have topped 100,000 ahead of its release later this year.

According to a report from The Detroit News, the reservations are nonbinding and do not require a deposit, but with large demand coming from California—a state that usually prefers import—and other markets, Ford executives are confident those will turn into sales.

“This really has exceeded our expectations,” Todd Eckert, Ford’s truck marketing manager, said in the report. “This is the initial step with reservations. But we think it bodes extremely well.”

The small hybrid version of the pickup starts at under $20,000 and gets 40 miles per gallon and is only six inches longer than a Toyota Camry sedan according to the report. The vast majority of preorders have come from the Los Angeles, Orlando, San Francisco and Houston markets.
