Mazda Agrees to Settlement Over Alleged Faulty Denso Fuel Pumps

April 15, 2025
The original class action lawsuit claimed that the fuel pumps, manufactured by Denso, were faulty, leading to fuel pump failure, engine failure, and stalling while driving.

Mazda has agreed to a class action lawsuit over claims that certain Mazda vehicles are equipped with defective Denso fuel pumps, according to Top Class Actions.

Included in the class action are “Additional Vehicles”: certain Mazda vehicles equipped with a Denso low-pressure fuel pump that were not included in Mazda’s recall. This includes the following: certain 2017-2019 MX-5, 2017-2019 CX-9, 2018-2021 Mazda3, 2017-2019 Mazda6, 2018-2019 CX-3, 2017-2019 CX-5, 2018 Mazda2, and 2020 CX-30.

Also included in the class action are models covered by Mazda’s recall: certain 2018 Mazda6, 2019 CX-3, 2018-2019 MX-5, 2019-2019 CX-5, 2018-2019 CX-9, 2018 Mazda3, and 2019-2020 Mazda2 vehicles.

The original class action lawsuit claimed that the fuel pumps, manufactured by Denso, were faulty, leading to fuel pump failure, engine failure, and stalling while driving.

Mazda and Denso have admitted to wrongdoing, but will pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the claims. As part of the settlement, current and former owners and lessees of vehicles covered by the class action are eligible for certain benefits.

Owners of Recalled Vehicles are being offered an extended 15-year new parts warranty or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first, for replacement fuel pump kits. Additional Vehicles will be offered prospective coverage for their fuel pumps with a 15-year warranty from the date of first use.

Class members may also receive reimbursement for any out-of-pocket expenses related to the repair or replacement of the fuel pump, if they have proof they were first denied coverage by a Mazda dealer.
