Hyundai Axes Complimentary Maintenance in Favor of Prepaid Plans
Hyundai is eliminating its complimentary maintenance service in favor of selling prepaid maintenance packages to Hyundai drivers, according to The Drive.
With all its new vehicles, Hyundai has offered free maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles—whichever comes first—since 2020. However, this will now only apply to Hyundai model years 2020 through 2025, as the company has decided to do away with the program.
This was reportedly revealed through a service bulletin recently sent out to dealerships, which cited burdensome costs as the reason for the program’s demise. Instead, the company outlined plans for dealers to sell prepaid maintenance plans to customers.
Two different plans will be offered: Pre-Paid Basic, which covers just oil changes and tire rotations; and Pre-Paid Schedule, which will entail all scheduled maintenance in a vehicle’s owner’s manual. These plans could allegedly last as long as eight years, though no details were shared on price.
Hyundai’s 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty and five-year, 60,000-mile new vehicle warranty is unaffected by the change.
