The American Petroleum Institute has released a new resource page on diesel exhaust fluid quality, purchasing, and storage, according to a press release.

API’s DEF Consumer Guidance page provides an overview of why high-quality DEF is important, going in detail about the characteristics of properly formulated DEF and what the risk of substandard products are.

The guide also goes over good practices for purchasing, with expert recommendations on identifying reputable suppliers and maintaining product integrity from purchase to application.

DEF storage is covered as well, containing information on proper temperature control and contamination prevention practices in order to retain fluid efficacy. API also has a Do’s and Don’ts Guide for DEF storage that consumers and shops can refer to.

“The API DEF Consumer Guidance offers consumers and drivers, fleet managers and others clear guidance to ensure optimal performance and compliance with emissions standards,” said Bill O’Ryan, Senior Manager-EOLCS/DEF with API. “This crucial information is designed to help expand industry knowledge and operational efficiency.”
