Defective Fuel Pumps Lead to Recall of Over 295K Ford Diesel Engine Trucks
Ford has issued a recall for 295,449 vehicles over a defective fuel pump, CBS News reports.
The recall applies to 2020-2022 Ford Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600; and 2021-2022 Ford F-650, F-750 diesel engine trucks.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the defective fuel pumps are prone to biodiesel deposits forming on the drivetrain roller components. This can lead to the high pressure fuel pump failing, followed by a loss of power.
Drivers with the issue will experience an extended crank while starting, reduced engine power, noise, and will see the check engine light come on. No accidents, injuries, or fires related to the issue have been reported.
Letters will begin being mailed to affected owners on Jan. 13. Dealerships will be instructed to install an update for the vehicles’ powertrain control module software.
This is one of four recalls Ford issued on the same day, including a battery issue creating fire risk in Escape and Lincoln Corsair hybrid vehicles.
