Ford Files Patent for Fluid and Capacity Communication System

Jan. 6, 2025
Ford has filed a patent for a system that would help avoid improper fluids being released in a vehicle.

Ford has filed yet another patent related to fluid storage containers and systems—this time, for a system that would help avoid improper fluids being released in a vehicle.

Ford Authority shared that the patent, filed on June 29, 2023, and published on Jan. 2, 2024, is for a fluid and capacity communication system.

The system would be able to detect what kind of fluid is compatible with the vehicle, and monitor the fluid being filled upon a dispenser being activated.

Within the patent, Ford underscored how varied fluids can be between different models. With drivers often mixing up fluids such as fuel, such as not realizing their vehicle runs on lower octane fuel or putting diesel into a conventional ICE vehicle, the system aims to mitigate damage that may occur due to the wrong fluid being put into a car.

As we’ve covered before, there have even been incidents of drivers unknowingly putting contaminated fuel in their vehicle, leading to severe damage.
