A software malfunction in 1.46 million Stellantis vehicles has left them vulnerable to the electronic stability control system being disabled, reports Reuters.

The recall covers 1.46 million vehicles worldwide, including almost 1.23 million Ram 1500 trucks in the U.S. from model years 2019 and 2021-2024.

A defect in the vehicle’s software could cause the anti-lock brake system control module to disable the electronic stability control system, which creates risk of crash and is in violation of federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Telltale signs of the software defect in recalled vehicles includes ABS, ESC, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Forward Collision Warning indicator lights illuminating upon startup. Foundational braking would still be operational.
