The program will provide funds for drivers to remedy any emissions violations preventing them from passing a state inspection.

The state of Vermont is partnering with automotive businesses to help low-income drivers remedy any emissions violations with their vehicles, reports My Champlain Valley.

A maximum of $2,500 may be provided to assist a vehicle owner with repairing any faulty components of their car’s emissions system that may prevent them from passing the state’s annual inspection, such as a catalytic converter.

The program is recruiting different automotive businesses that will participate, one of which being VIP Tires and Service’s Shelburne, Vermont location.

The Automotive Emissions Repair Assistance Pilot Program was launched by the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation. According to DEC Commissioner Jason Batchelder, the program’s goal is to relieve the cost burden of vehicle ownership on low-income Vermont residents while also improving air quality.

“This critical program will not only reduce transportation-related costs for those who can least afford them, but also protect public health and air quality for all Vermonters,” said Batchelder.
