Pennsylvania Drivers Misinformed on Status of Vehicle Safety Inspections Requirement

Aug. 15, 2024
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has had to issue a statement informing drivers inspections are still required, regardless of proposed legislation.

Recent pushes for the elimination of required vehicle inspections in Pennsylvania have prompted confusion among drivers in the state, reports Local 21 News.

Last September, Pennsylvania Senator Marty Flynn proposed a bill to eliminate annual vehicle safety inspections in the state. However, the bill has not been made into law yet.

Despite this, conversation surrounding the topic has led some drivers in the state to believe that annual safety inspections have already been nixed.

In an attempt to avoid drivers neglecting their still-required inspections, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation issued a statement on Facebook alerting drivers that no change has been made to its rules on inspections.

“You may have seen some posts about PA state inspections going away, so we wanted to set the record straight,” wrote PennDOT. “PA requires annual state safety inspections and emissions testing. There has not been any bill signed reducing or removing this requirement.”
