It's possible that machining debris from the manufacturing process was not adequately cleared from the vehicle, the automaker said.

Toyota has issued a recall for approximately 102,000 trucks and SUVs due to debris in the engine compartment, reports GearJunkie.

The voluntary recall this past Thursday, and applies to 2022-2023 Tacoma pickup trucks and Lexus LX SUVs with conventional gas engines. Hybrid models of these vehicles are excluded from the recall.

According to a press release from Toyota, it’s possible that machining debris from the manufacturing process was not adequately cleared from the vehicle. This presents risk of the engine knocking, rough running, or not starting, as well as a potential loss of motive power.

The automaker is currently developing a solution for the problem, and expects to let owners know what to do to next by late July. In the meantime, if drivers of these vehicles notice any symptoms of engine debris, they’re advised to cease driving the vehicle and contact a dealer.
