U.S. Consumer Confidence Down for 3rd Month

Sept. 29, 2021—For a third consecutive month, consumer confidence in the United States has dropped. 

According to a report from the Associated Press, the Conference Board on Tuesday showed its consumer index fell to 109.3 for September, down nearly six points from August and the lowest it has been since February. 

Lynn Franco, economic indicators senior director for the board, said that while confidence is still historically high, the index has dropped nearly 20 points since the start of summer. 

“These back-to-back declines suggest consumers have grown more cautious and are likely to curtail spending going forward,” Franco said.
