Feb. 16, 2022—Exxon Mobil last week made a new contract offer to union workers who have been locked out of the company's Beaumont, Texas, plant since May.
According to a report from Reuters, the new offer is the result of meetings from the past week as the company tries to bring back 600 workers to its motor fuels and oils refinery. Production has continued for the past nine months using managers and temporary workers.
Officials from the United Steelworkers union, which represents the locked out employees, met Monday. A vote by the general union body could happen within the next two weeks.
The company locked out its employees before a threatened strike could happen back in May; Exxon officials say they resorted to the measure to avoid production disruption.
Negotiations have happened on and off for the past three-quarters of a year. Employees rejected a previous proposal from the company back in October.
