The funds are going towards a program partnering with local shops to provide those in need with free emissions control repairs.

Marathon Petroleum’s refinery in St. Paul Park, Minnesota, is investing $40,000 to help local auto shops provide emissions control repairs for older vehicles, according to a press release.

The donation will go towards Project Clean Air Repair—or Project CAR—a program from a Minnesota nonprofit called Environmental Initiative. The program partners with local shops to provide those in need with free emissions control repairs.

Since launching in 2017, Environmental Initiative has helped repair more than 730 cars, cutting nearly 40 tons of emissions. Having recently expanded its partnerships to include shops in the East Metro area, Project CAR currently collaborates with six local shops in the Twin Cities, including Turbo Tim’s and The Lift Garage, and is looking to expand to more.

“Investing in Project CAR shows our commitment to supporting programs that truly benefit our community,” said Holly Jackson, general manager of Marathon Petroleum’s St. Paul Park refinery. “We believe in initiatives that help local families, and this program makes a real impact while building a healthier future in the place we’re so proud to call home.”
