NHTSA Investigation Revives Class Action Lawsuit Over Ford Fuel Injectors

Nov. 27, 2024
Upon NHTSA determining Ford's prescribed recalls were insufficient, the class action related to fuel injectors in EcoBoost engines returns to court.

A judge that previously dismissed a class action lawsuit over faulty fuel injectors in Ford vehicles has revived the case following findings from a federal investigation, according to Ford Authority.

Since Nov. 2022, Ford has faced a myriad of issues with its 2020-2022 Ford Escape and 2021-2023 Ford Bronco Sport equipped with the turbocharged Ford 1.5L I-3 EcoBoost engine.

The lawsuit was first filed in early 2023, after some owners were still experiencing issues even after receiving the automaker’s prescribed recall fix for the defective fuel injectors. Earlier this year, when Ford issued two new recalls related to the problem, Judge Shalina D. Kumar sided with Ford and dismissed the case.

However, about a month later, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched an investigation into Ford’s recall fix, eventually determining that it was inadequate and did not address the root cause behind the problem.

Though NHTSA’s investigation is ongoing, this information was enough for Judge Kumar to revive the class action lawsuit, which will now return to court.
