NHTSA Opens Investigation Into Honda for Vehicles Not Covered in Earlier Recall

Nov. 18, 2024
Honda previously recalled approximately 250K vehicles for the same problem. However, NHTSA has since received complaints of the same issue in vehicles not included in the recall.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching a probe into 1.4 million Honda vehicles over reports of failing engines, reports Associated Press.

Specifically, the probe will cover the 2016-2020 Honda Pilot and Acura MDX, 2018-2020 Honda Odyssey and Acura TLX, and 2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline.

Documents shared by NHTSA stated that connecting rod bearings on vehicles with 3.5-liter V6 engines are prone to failure, leading the engine to completely fail.

Honda previously recalled approximately 250,000 vehicles in November 2023 for the same problem. However, NHTSA has since received 173 complaints of connecting rod bearing failures from drivers with vehicles not included in the recall. One driver experienced a crash with no injuries.

NHTSA has opened a recall query, and will determine the severity of the issue in vehicles that were not included in the original recall.
