Louisiana SpeeDee Oil Change Stores Fundraise for Breast Cancer Treatment
SpeeDee Oil Change and Auto Service locations in the New Orleans, Louisiana area are gearing up to fundraise for the National Breast Cancer Foundation this month, reports WGNO.
The fundraiser is an annual endeavor that first began with one SpeeDee store before expanding last year to locations in the entire area. A total of over $100,000 was donated in 2023 to the Susan G. Komen foundation.
Staff across all eight SpeeDee stores in the region will don pink shirts to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness month and its fundraiser.
Much of the motivation behind SpeeDee’s fundraiser is rooted in its employees’ experiences with breast cancer—whether it’s their own personal story or that of someone close to them.
The fundraiser was first started by a SpeeDee owner who survived breast cancer twice, and continues to support others fighting the same battle, such as Linna Alcoser, an employee at the Metairie SpeeDee store.
“It started with a diagnosis of an inverted breast nipple. Stage three breast cancer. So the treatment plan was radiation and chemotherapy,” shared Alcoser. “The chemotherapy was 12 to 13 rounds all while working at SpeeDee.”
