How a Texas Kwik Kar Owner Is Keeping His Employees Safe in Triple-Digit Heat

Owner Ray Bowens is taking precautions to ensure his employees are able to work safely in dangerous heat.

A Kwik Kar owner in Lewisville, Texas, has had to take measures to keep his employees safe in the face of triple-digit temps, reports NBCDFW.

Those in the area have all been facing intense heat–but for the hardworking technicians at Kwik Kar Vista Ridge, it isn’t always something they can seek refuge from. With limited airflow in the shop and cars that are already heated up constantly coming through, it can sometimes feel worse than it is outside.

Intense heat can be a serious health risk in the workplace, prompting shop owner Ray Bowens to provide a space for his employees to take regular cool-off breaks. A small, air-conditioned room in the back is provided for employees to rest in throughout the day.

Bowens added that staying hydrated is something he and his team have to be conscious of, as well.

“Always drink water,” said technician Alfredo De La Cruz.

In addition, Bowens has a sign posted out front for customers, notifying them of the intense heat his techs are working under, and that the need for cool-off breaks may impact their typical wait times. Most customers have no problem with that, however.

“They understand that we want to not only keep their car healthy but keep our employees healthy also,” said Bowens.
