After Selling Family Quick Lube, Texas Business Owner Revives Brand

Aug. 1, 2024
Five years after selling Bolton's Oil Change to Take 5, Charles Bolton has decided to bring his family's brand back to Lubbock, Texas.

After selling his family’s oil change business five years ago, Charles Bolton of Lubbock, Texas, has decided to revive the brand, reports Lubbock Lights.

Bolton Oil Company was first established as a gas station in 1949. By 1979, the business had 11 locations, and in 1981 opened its first Bolton’s Oil Change location. The business’ oil change segment eventually grew to six stores before being sold to Take 5 Oil Change in 2019.

Since selling Bolton’s Oil Change, the company has focused on operating its gas stations as well as a storage unit segment of the business–but a non-compete agreement between Bolton and Take 5 has recently expired, according to Lubbock Lights.

Now, plans have been submitted for two Bolton Oil Change locations to once again open in Lubbock. Bolton declined to comment on the development, but said he could share more about it next month.

Final approval has already been granted for an 8,295 square-foot facility at 1900 Milwaukee Avenue, while final inspection and approval is pending for a 6,445 square-foot shop at 6600 Indiana Avenue. Lubbock’s city permit tracker listed the Indiana location as 46% complete as of Tuesday morning.
