AAA has released numbers on the number of people expected to travel over Thanksgiving weekend, Contra Costa News reports.
55.4 million people are expected to travel for the upcoming holiday, marking a 2.3% increase from last year. It would be the third-largest rate of Thanksgiving travel since 2001.
Of those traveling, 88% will be drivers, representing over 49 million Americans and a 1.7% increase from 2022.
California will be especially busy, with nearly 7.5 million travelers estimated. It would be a 3% increase from 2022.
“Travel demand has truly bounced back to pre-pandemic levels,” said Senior Vice President of Membership and Travel Marketing for AAA Northern California, Brian Ng. “Our holiday travel projections show the year-long trend of Californians’ eagerness to get away and create memories with family and friends.”
