Oct. 4, 2019—The United Auto Workers union is aiming to get a leg up on its negotiations with General Motors by going directly after the company’s boss, according to a report by the New York Post.
Leaders with the labor union, whose strike impacts 46,000 workers at 34 plants nationwide, have held high-level talks this week about levying a “no-confidence” vote on chief executive Mary Barra, the newspaper reported.
Sources briefed on the talks cautioned that no vote was imminent, however. Additionally, the UAW expects negotiations to likely last until at least next week.
A no-confidence vote by the UAW wouldn’t carry any force with GM or its board of directors, which is chaired by Barra. Still, some members see it as an effective way to apply pressure to Barra, the Post reported.
