Mercedes-Benz Issues Recall for Front Brake Hoses Vulnerable to Hot, Humid Climates
Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for over 20,000 vehicles for front brake hoses prone to bursting, according to The Brake Report.
Approximately 20,339 vehicles are covered in the recall, consisting of the following 2021-2023 S-Class models: S 500, Maybach S 580 4MATIC, S 580 4MATIC, S 680 4MATIC, and S 580e 4MATIC.
First discovered by the automaker through field reports and thorough testing, the defect lies with front brake hoses rupturing due to material degradation that occurs in hot, humid conditions, and brake fluid leaking over time.
The problem impacts one of two brake circuits within the vehicle. In the event of a brake fluid leak, drivers may see a red brake fluid warning message appear in the instrument cluster.
Vehicles built after March 23, 2022, are not affected, as they were manufactured with improved brake hoses. Owners of recalled vehicles will be notified by mail on April 25, with dealers to replace their brake hoses with ones meeting durability standards.
