Honda Recalls Nearly 295K Vehicles for Fuel Injection ECU Software Defect
Honda is issuing a recall for approximately 295,000 vehicles due to an issue causing engine stalling or failure, according to The Manual.
Covered in the recall are 2022-2025 Acura MDX Type-S, 2023-2025 Honda Pilot, and 2021-2025 Acura TLX Type-S models. According to NHTSA, the potential number of vehicles affected is 294,612.
The issue stems from a software issue with the fuel injection electronic control unit, which Honda first became aware of around December 2023 due to an increase in torque monitor data.
After that, the company’s electronic control unit supplier, Denso International America, made Honda aware of a potential diagnostics issue in April 2024, highlighting incorrect settings for monitoring airflow and fuel volume.
This led to Honda initiating an investigation in June 2024, which in December concluded that a software defect in the FI-ECU had caused engine stalling. These findings were confirmed last month, followed shortly by a recall issued on Jan. 16.
It’s estimated that 1% of recalled vehicles are impacted. Honda had received 674 warranty claims related to the problem as of Jan. 16, but no reports of injuries or accidents.
