Honda Issues Voluntary Recall Over Defect in Fuel Injection Electronic Control Units

Jan. 31, 2025
Engine stalling or failure could be caused by faulty programming in fuel injection electronic control units.

Honda has issued a voluntary recall of around 295,000 Acura and Honda vehicles due to faulty programming leading to engine problems, according to NBC Los Angeles.

Covered in the recall are certain 2023-25 Honda Pilot, 2022-25 Acura MDX Type S, and 2021-25 Acura TLX Type S vehicles.

According to Honda, sudden changes in the throttle could cause the engine to hesitate, stall, or fail. This could also be preceded by the check engine light coming on.

The problem is caused by faulty programming in the fuel injection electronic control units, which Honda said it discovered itself through reviewing telematics information.

Dealers will be instructed to update the FI-ECU, with notices to be mailed out beginning March 17.
