CARFAX: One in Nine Americans Behind on Oil Changes, Tire Rotations

Nov. 26, 2024
Vehicles that are behind on both services are estimated to be more than 30 million.

CARFAX has estimated that one in nine Americans are behind on routine vehicle maintenance, creating a risk for upcoming holiday travel.

With low or dirty oil leading to engine failure and uneven tire tread leading to blowouts or flats, as more drivers head out for holiday travel, so does the importance of making sure their vehicles are safe rise.

Despite this, many Americans are glossing over basic preventative maintenance practices. When it comes to oil changes, CARFAX has estimated that nearly 20% of cars on the road are behind on receiving one.

In addition, almost 30% of drivers are also past due to have tire rotations performed on their vehicles, CARFAX added.

Vehicles that are behind on both services are estimated to be more than 30 million, representing one in nine drivers.

The numbers represent an improvement from last year, however, when CARFAX estimated that one in five Americans were falling behind on maintenance.
