Quick Lube Shop Owner Helps Save Texas Woman’s Life After Collision
The owner of a quick lube in Taylor, Texas, recently found himself saving the life of a woman who was struck by a vehicle, reports Taylor Press.
On the morning of June 14, Carla Hoffman was bicycling at the intersection of Third and Main streets when she was struck by a 55-year-old woman driving a Chevrolet Cruz.
The vehicle didn’t stop, though–it dragged Hoffman over 100 feet down the road, who was trapped by tangled handlebars and brake cords.
The owner of a nearby business witnessed the accident as it unfolded, and when he realized the driver wasn’t stopping, he and his employee quickly stepped in. They pounded on the car’s windows, but the driver still kept going.
It was then that Mark Anthony Palacios, owner of Good Ole’ Fashioned Oil and Lube, jumped in to help.
“I was behind the car that actually hit Carla,” Palacios recalled.
Putting his hazard lights on and stopping his car, Palacios ran to the Chevy Cruz to see what was happening. All the while, Hoffman was suffering intense road burn, which could have been much more severe if not for her helmet.
The vehicle was finally brought to a stop when one brave driver who turned onto Main Street used her own vehicle to force it to a stop.
A police officer soon arrived at the scene, and with the help of Palacios and four or five other men, the 3,000-pound vehicle was lifted off of Hoffman, who survived. The story has since gained much traction in the local community, but Hoffman wants credit to go to those who saved her.
“I don’t really want the story to be about me,” told Hoffman. “I would love to have those people that jumped into action that day to stop the car and lifted it off of me recognized.”
