July 27, 2021—Denver police are giving drivers with broken tail lights or headlights gift cards instead of tickets instead of tickets.
According to a report from KDVR Channel 2, the police department has partnered with Advance Auto Parts to give motorists with "minor vehicle safety issues" a $25 gift card to encourage motorists to address those issues.
"Working together is how we create stronger communities, and stronger communities are safer communities,” Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen said during a news conference announcing the program.
The department did not say how long the program would last, but Advance Auto Parts only gave the department 100 gift cards to start.
