Buick introduced the Envision in 2016 as an all-new luxury compact crossover. There have been a few updates to the 2017 version, such as new Envision, preferred and essence trims, a new teen driver feature and a new exterior color option.
The 2017 Envision features a 2.5L four-cylinder engine SAE certified at 197 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque on its preferred and essence times. Premium trims feature a 2.0L turbo engine SAE certified at 252 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Performance and efficiency is enhanced with stop/start technology — Buick’s first application on the 2.0L turbo engine. It seamlessly shuts down the engine when the Envision comes to a stop under certain driving conditions, such as a stoplight. The engine automatically restarts when the driver takes his or her foot off the brake.
The 2.0L turbo engine is offered exclusively with AWD. The turbocharger features a twin-scroll design that helps the engine deliver a broad torque band, for a greater feeling of power on demand. Ninety percent of peak torque is available from 1,800 rpm to 5,500 rpm, and the full 260 pound-feet of peak torque from 3,000 to 4,000 rpm.
The engine is designed with refinement-enhancing features such as balance shafts and sound-attenuating components; and is isolated on a hydraulically damped substructure that helps quell noise and vibration. Four powertrain mounts are used rather than the conventional three. Buick’s HiPer Strut front suspension reduces torque steer and benefits steering feel. The Envision features Buick’s first active Twin Clutch AWD system designed to make the most of handling and stability in all driving conditions. It is a fully automatic, on-demand system engineered to deliver surefooted handling in low-grip conditions, while also contributing to a quieter and smoother ride with minimal torque transferred to the rear wheels and when all-wheel-drive traction isn’t needed.
The Envision offers a standard eight-inch Buick IntelliLink screen, as well as available OnStar with 4G LTE with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot. IntelliLink provides intuitive operation of basic functions, yet is capable of linking up Bluetooth devices such as smartphones, as well as SD cards and MP3 players.
Buick’s new crossover also features 360 degrees of available passive and active safety technology, including 10 standard air bags, available automatic park assist, available surround vision camera system and Buick’s first use of lane keep assist, which is standard. The 2017 Buick Envision carries a starting MSRP of $36,795. A top-of-the-line Premium II Envision, with a 2.5L turbocharged engine, all-wheel drive, 19-inch aluminum wheels, articulating, IntelliBeam headlamps, cooled front seats, head-up display, navigation, Rainsense wipers, a heated steering wheel, power moonroof and a slew of safety features will cost a buyer just south of $50,000.
Servicing the Envision The 2017 Buick Envision is equipped with an oil life monitor. When the Change Engine Oil Soon message displays, the engine oil and filter should be changed within the next 600 miles (1,000 km). If driven under the best conditions, the engine oil life system may not indicate the need for vehicle service for up to a year. The engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year, and the oil life system must be reset.
Every 7,500 miles (12,000 km): • Check engine oil level and oil life percentage; if needed, change engine oil and filter, and reset oil life system • Check engine coolant level • Check windshield washer fluid level • Visually inspect windshield wiper blades for wear, cracking or contamination • Check tire inflation pressures • Inspect tire wear • Visually check for fluid leaks • Inspect engine air cleaner filter • Inspect brake system • Visually inspect steering, suspension and chassis components for damaged, loose or missing parts or signs of wear • Check restraint system components • Visually inspect fuel system for damage or leaks • Visually inspect exhaust system and nearby heat shields for loose or damaged parts • Lubricate body components • Check starter switch • Check automatic transmission shift lock control function • Check parking brake and automatic transmission park mechanism • Check accelerator pedal for damage, high effort or binding; replace, if needed • Visually inspect gas strut for signs of wear, cracks or other damage; check the hold-open ability of the strut • Inspect sunroof track and seal, if equipped
Every 22,500 miles (36,000 km) or every two years: • Replace passenger compartment air filter
Every 45,000 miles (72,000 km): • Inspect evaporative control system; visually check all fuel and vapor lines and hoses for proper attachment, connection, routing and condition
Every 45,000 miles (72,000 km) or every four years: • Replace engine air cleaner filter
Every 60,000 miles (96,000 km) — 2.0L turbo engine only: • Replace spark plugs • Inspect spark plug wires
Every 97,500 miles (156,000 km) — 2.5L engine only: • Replace spark plugs • Inspect spark plug wires
Every 150,000 miles (240,000 km) or every five years: • Drain and fill engine cooling system
Every 150,000 miles (240,000 km) or every 10 years: • Visually inspect accessory drive belts for fraying, excessive cracking or damage; replace, if needed
