Nov. 4, 2020—Massachusetts voters have spoken, and it's a yes for Question 1, concerning the Right to Repair law, on the ballot.
After a long battle, the Massachusetts Right to Repair Committee declared victory after 9 p.m. Eastern Time based on the projections. According to Mass Live, the AP projected the bill would pass. With 61 percent of precincts reporting, 75 percent of voters have approved the bill, according to the count on the morning after Election Day.
Question 1 on the Massachusetts ballot updates a previous law to make telematics information available to all repairers. The vote now gives independent auto shops access to data that might otherwise be controlled by automakers.
Opponents of the ballot measure say the original bill already gives shops access, and are more concerned about the privacy of consumers.
