TechSpec: 2017 Nissan Pathfinder

Motor Oil: 0W-20 SN
Capacity: 5.125 quarts (4.8 liters) with filter change

The 2017 Nissan Pathfinder was reborn for the 2017 model year. It received a major exterior redesign, new technology and safety features and more than 56 percent new or new-to-Pathfinder engine parts and components.

The seven-passenger 2017 Pathfinder is offered in two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations and four trim levels: S, SV, SL and Premium. Exterior enhancements include a new hood, front bumper, fog lights, taillights, rear bumper and aerodynamic optimization efforts such as a new grille design, which enhances cooling performance and negates the need for an active grille shutter. Nissan also added the available motion activated liftgate.

Enhancements to the Pathfinder interior focus on convenience and connectivity, with the biggest being the adoption of a new generation of information technology.

Pathfinder’s new 3.5L V6 engine features more power, torque and towing capacity. It utilizes more than 50-percent new or new-to-Pathfinder engine parts and components — including combustion chamber design, pistons, intake manifold and e-VTC (fully electric on intake). The compression ratio has also been raised to 11.0:1 from 10.3: 1.

The new engine also features a direct injection gasoline system (which Nissan refers to as DIG but can also be called GDI). The switch to mirror bore cylinder coating reduces engine weight by about three pounds and reduces friction between the piston ring and the cylinder wall. This technology eliminates the need for a heavy cast iron cylinder liner. Horsepower for the new V6 increased to 284 horsepower, and torque is now rated at 259 pound-feet.

All Pathfinder models are equipped with Nissan’s third generation Xtronic transmission. Pathfinder also features selectable two-wheel drive, auto or four-wheel drive lock modes from the available intuitive all-mode 4×4-i system.

An entry-level Pathfinder S features the all-new 3.5L engine, Xtronic transmission and standard features such as NissanConnect with an 8-inch display, HD Radio, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, EZ Flex Seating System, tri-zone automatic temperature control, RearView monitor and advanced drive-assist display.

A top-of-the-line Pathfinder Platinum offers unique 20-inch machined aluminum alloy wheels, 235/55R20 tires, LED headlights, NissanConnect with navigation and services, Bose 13-speaker premium audio system, cooled front seats, wood grain finishes, dual panorama moonroof, trailer tow package, forward emergency braking, intelligent cruise control and more.

Servicing the 2017 Pathfinder

Nissan provides two maintenance schedules that may be used, depending upon the conditions in which the vehicle is usually driven. These schedules contain both distance and time intervals. For most vehicles, the odometer reading will indicate when service is needed. However, if the vehicle is driven very little, the vehicle should be serviced at the regular time intervals shown in the schedule.

NORMAL MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE

Every 5,000 miles (8,000 km) or six months:

  • Replace engine oil
  • Replace engine oil filter

Every 10,000 miles (16,000 km) or 12 months:

  • Inspect brake lines and cables
  • Inspect brake pads and rotors
  • Inspect CVT fluid
  • Inspect transfer fluid and differential gear oil
  • Inspect propeller shaft and drive shaft boots (4WD models)

Every 15,000 miles (24,000 km) or 18 months:

  • Replace in-cabin microfilter
  • Replace intelligent key battery

Every 20,000 miles (32,000 km) or 24 months:

  • Inspect evap vapor lines
  • Inspect fuel lines
  • Replace brake fluid
  • Inspect steering gear and linkage, axle and suspension parts
  • Inspect exhaust system

Every 30,000 miles (48,000 km) or 36 months:

  • Replace air cleaner filter

Every 40,000 miles (64,000 km) or 48 months:

  • Inspect drive belts

Every 105,000 miles (168,000 km):

  • Replace spark plugs

At 105,000 miles (168,000 km) or 84 months, and then every 75,000 miles (120,000 km) or 60 months thereafter:

  • Replace engine coolant

ADDITIONAL SERVICES – SEVERE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE

More frequent maintenance must be performed if the vehicle is mainly operated under severe driving conditions: repeated short trips of less than 5 miles (8 km); repeated short trips of less than 10 miles (16 km) with outside temperatures remaining below freezing; operating in hot weather in stop-and-go rush hour traffic; extensive idling and/or low-speed driving for long distances, such as police, taxi or door-to-door delivery use; driving in dusty conditions; driving on rough, muddy or salt-spread roads; or towing a trailer, using a camper or using a car-top carrier.

Every 5,000 miles (8,000 km) or six months:

  • Inspect brake pads and rotors
  • Inspect steering gear and linkage, axle and suspension parts
  • Inspect propeller shaft and drive shaft boots (4WD models)
  • Inspect exhaust system

Every 10,000 miles (16,000 km) or 12 months:

  • Replace brake fluid

If a vehicle is driven mainly using a camper or car-top carrier, towing a trailer or driving on rough or muddy roads, the following services should be performed at more frequent intervals:

Every 20,000 miles (32,000 km) or 24 months:

  • Replace transfer fluid and differential gear oil

Every 60,000 miles (96,000 km):

  • Inspect CVT fluid and replace, if necessary
